As the football world turns

So much for a football season. The way things are going these days, Clemson and USC fans are in the midst of what has turned out to be a pretty good soap opera.
On Monday, the turbulent Tommy Bowden era finally reached a merciful end, thanks to his ‘resignation.' Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips was emphatic in letting everyone know that Bowden was not fired, that he resigned. Clemson's Death Valley finally proved to be Bowden's Valley of Death.

At 6,684 feet above sea level, North Carolina's Mount Mitchell is the highest point in the southeastern part of the United States. But that's not all it is. After getting to the peak this past Saturday, I can also tell you that it is the coldest, windiest, foggiest and meanest mountain as well.

Getting a kick out of football

When Jimmy Watson was a student at Sumter High in the late 1970's, he was a soccer player. He went on to play four years of soccer at Erskine College and has spent time coaching both the boys and girls soccer team ever since he became a member of the Sumter High faculty following his graduation from Erskine.
